Default Auto USB Download not working?

Hi,

I am a newbie to digicams. I have finally bought myself a C3040Z and immediately start shooting. After shooting a hundred photos, I discovered to my horror that I cannot download my jpegs to the computer.

The USB driver was installed and my C3040Z was recognised as a Removable drive. But I just cannot access the contents of the drive as the system kept saying that my drive is not ready.

I did not format the smartmedia but I do not think that is the reason as I can view the jpegs from the camera LCD pretty well, all the sunset shots etc are in.

Anyone has any idea as to why I cannot access the contents of the Removable Drive?

Thanks.

Sounds like format issue. viewing in cam but not able to download pics is norm for card not formatted properly.
Guessing you are using 98/98SE? Is cam plugged into USB port or HUB?

Thanks for the reply, Gary. I did another experiment later which is to initialize my other SmartMedia, take a few pictures with it and try downloading it. Does not work.

And yes, I am using Windows 98.

As to the port, I have tried both the USB and HUB ports but still I could not read the contents of the Camera. Guess I need a Smartmedia Reader?

Plug the camera into the USB port. Now, restart your computer. When you open the software, everything should be ready to go. Welcome to digital photography. This question is almost universal among new digicam owners, at least among Windows users. Me too.

Is it working for now?

As an IT, I would do this thing first :
Try to plug your camera in an other computer that is using other OS (operating system "Windows version").

I've used my 3020 with Windows 2000 & XP whitout any problem..

5 type,
98/98SE require drivers for USB, ME and later much more USB friendly. Also best to plug and setup USB device into a USB port that has not been used for something else. USB port #1 should be saved for printer, then come out of #2 with hub and can connect other hubs to allow 127 devices out of #2, most info for origanal poster as you have much friendlier OS.

Default Auto Connect not working

You may have a conflict inside your device manager of the computer. Right click on MyComputer, click on properties, click on Device Manager tab and look for your camera and see if there is a conflict. If not conflict I would highlight the camera and click remove. Restart the computer and 98 should find the camera again. Make sure that the camera is on.
