Hello all,

I am a pain in the neck, I know. When I shoot in high contrast environments I see strong vertical pink bands (streaks/stripes) in the EVF and the LCD on my Oly C-770 in the LIGHT areas.

Imagine a quite dark room with a very bright window: bands would be where the window is.

Imagine a street between 2 skycrapers (dark) and the sky (light) between those two buildings. The bands would be where the sky is.

NOTE: Those bands/stripes will not be recorded to the picture - everything looks fine there. But is is very disturbing and I can't aim correctly because everything is purple!!!

Anyone else noticed that?

Thanks in advance

It's normal and happens with the 740/750 as well as other brands of digicams. It was mentioned in the 740 manual, but I haven't read any of the other manuals cover to cover yet.

Got the same answer from support - all that counts for them is if the pictures taken are ok - and they are.

Thanks

That's true.

But the purple stripesAREvisiblein shooting video.

I would say that IS a problem.

And it will continue to be until you:

a. get a lens hood or

b. get a "video" camera, which will still exhibit the effect, though to a lesser degree.

Pretty much all digicams will do this, not just Olympus.

Yep - they are in the video too. Noticed it that weekend. I can live with it when I point directly into the sun :roll:but sometimes it's more than annoying.

Hi,

more annoying:

In the high-contrast, purple-band situation focussing is nearly impossible with the camera set on spot focus. Can anybody confirm this?

Regards, Herbert

I am considering a lens hood for my camera, how does it reduce these purple lines?

You will keep these, since the lenshood will not protect against reflected sunlughtin water and on metal objects. Problem is in the cam, not outside as some suggest.

I, too, am a pain in the neck, but I likewise have reason to be. I bought my 770 mainly to be able to take movies of my little grandchildren. Whenever I shot swimming pool shots, the movies come out just awful, all discolored etc. Movies shot slightly into the sun just a bit come out with vertical stripes etc. and are off color too. This camera shoots great stills, up to the 10X optical zoom, but as with other cameras, the digital zoom is a farce. Guess I'm going to have to spring for a video camera, as from the replies I've read in this webpage there's not much hope for getting good movies. Good luck with your movies. Jay
