Default Oly D40/C40 discontinued? Any opinions about it?

I'm thinking of picking the D40 up. In Canada it's going for$800. Is this a good price? Is this a good camera at all?? It's supposedly being "cleared out" at $800 from London Drugs. I'm wondering is it being discontinued? Any and all feedback is greatly appreciated.

800 CAD is about 350. The C/D40 sells over here for 420 ish. This camera is relatively new out and I would be very surprised if it was to be discontinued already. - unless someone else knows different.

Yes, it is a very good camera by any standards and particularly good as pocket jobs go

Steve,
A good price for the 40 is about $475 US. Camera models run about a 12 month cycle.

I've heard from friend at Olympus that the D-40 will be discontinued and upgraded in Sept/Oct 2002.

I don't believe that Olympus would discontinue a winner in their line up so soon. If you look at the review in diiferent web sites, you'll notice that they are all very recent which means that the D40 is just getting out there...

Excellent point, but rest assured the D-40 WILL be updated. It remains to be seen as to whether it will remain on the active roster.

the D-40 is the flagship of the Olympus D series, but with the speed of tec these days 12 months and new model year. As with any computer control item once every so offten they get it real right, 2100UZ good example, followed by the 700UZ and 720UZ, the 2100 seems to have reached cult status. The 86 vette faster than 87 and 88 rated less HP, another got it just right. Bottum line "new year model = new sales".

Default D40 discontinued

Olympus may bring in an updated version of the D40 but that does not imply that the D40 will not be sold. You can still purchase the C2000 series, C3000 series, C4000 series while Olympus will soon release the C5050. The C50 is D40/C40 5 megapixel version.
