Default Tiffen filters w/ C-4000, am I expecting too much?

I purchased Tiffen's 43mm filter set (UV and polarizer) and went test shooting yesterday. Maybe I was expecting too much, but the results were less than fantastic.

I shot a few pics of reflections off of glass, with and without the polarizer, and I can tell very little difference. I'm also having a hard time telling the proper position on the polarizer using the LCD. Any hints or advice would be appreciated.

You can't pop on a polarizer and expect for the glare to magically disappear, you have to adjust it properly. Here's a very long page on polarizer use:
