What is the best external flash is their for the C-750? Until I get one what is the best source of light can I use indoors? I live in Alaska and lighting is very difficult.

I use the Promaster Dx 5750. It has lots of power. Works good for a fill flash on bright, contrasty days outside. Very powerful for group, indoors shots or distant shots.

The focussing assist lamp doesn't help since it doesn't stay on long enough, so I just ignore that feature.

It is totally automatic as far as exposure, but you can adjust up or down 2 f-stops using the cameras flash compensation control on the menu.

The "best" would be an Olympus FL-40 (bought used or off Ebay) and the FL-50. They are 100% TTL compatible with the C-7xx, and has a focus assist beam that actually works properly (the Promaster AF beam shuts off prematurely before the camera has finished focusing).
