Hi,

I purchased my Olympus C2100 UZ about 3 years ago and have had very good luck with it.

I am looking to see if there is a camera out there that would be a good replacement.

The problem with the Oly is the Smart Media is getting very fussy.

I really like the 10X zoom and Image Stabilization.

Once you have a big zoom camera the lower zoom cameras don't seem to cut it.

I have looked at the panasonic fz20 and haven't seen enough to form an opinion.

Any input on this is very welcome.

Thanks,

Tj

LOL! Must be the season for upgrading!

I just bought a Canon 20D - upgrading from my Olympus E-10.

I guess it depends on what you want to do with the new camera...

hi tjboatboy,

Welcome to the forum

Here are some thoughts on your UZ...

First, keep it! Dont sell it!

Second, re the Smartmedia...many here on this forum recommend regular reformats of their cards.

I just edit copy, edit paste paste images to hard drive then edit select all and delete on the card. Never had a prob with cards.

Also, at one time...I got an F error when I inserted the card. I inserted and removed several times to "clean" the contacts. Voila! Fixed.

Third, re a replacement...if at all possible, try several digcams at a store.

Good luck

I had the C2100 and dropped and broke it about 8 months ago. I was very upset bedause I loved that camera. I now have the Panasonic FZ20 because it seemed the closest modern camrera, feature for feature, to what my C2100 was. I am very happy with the FZ20. It is all my C2100 was and more.

I stared reading this forum to find a replacement forthe UZI. Instead, I've learned more about it (and other cameras) and think it will be best to hold onto until it breaks. I think this sums it up:

Thanks for the info. I think I'd better pick up a couple extra cards the next time they are on sale before they become scarce. Do you know if 128 is also the max for the 2100UZ? I have one of them as a back up to my digi rebel. I was the first digital camera I bought and it still gives me some excellent 8x10 images. some times I think better then the 8x10s from my rebel.

Quite an endorsement. I think the moreI wait, the more prices will drop while quality/features goes up. Hope you can work out your card issue. Merry Christmas!

I've had FZ20 for 2 months and I'm happy with it.

But if only you have an option to wait, do it.

Pana has just released two new 12-zoom stabilised models - FZ4 and FZ5 - they are smaller, lesser quality optics, no hot shoe. I guess not enough for you. On the other hand, a bit cheaper.

KonicaMinolta Z3 and a new model Z5 will probably not stand up to your expectations either.

But Pana is going to release a new model in the second half of 2005. So is Sony (a new player in super zoom market).

If your problem is the SM, buy another for $20. Problem with my UZI was it was stolen Tried a FZ-20 in store and didn't like the feel. I ended up with a non-IS Fuji S5100, great handling, great feature, very fast camera. Image quality not as good as UZI with half it's resolution. Got another UZI on eBay, sold Fuji.

The C2100 is legendary; however, I agree with the poster who said the FZ20 is all the Uzi was...and more.
