Hello all,

I am having troubles with my 256MB Olympus xD card that I purchased not so long ago. I am using a Olympus D-540 camera. I also have a USB xD card reader/writer (which is awesome and only $9.90 (australian) on ebay) so I use my xD card as a memory stick aswell.

Now for the problem. Today I tried to take a picture. Instead of going straight to an image it gave me a menu with the title, CARD SETUP and the options of POWER OFF and FORMAT. Power off just turns the camera off. I can't exit this menu. I proceeded to turn off my camera and backed up my photos and files on my computer without any trouble using my USB adaptor. I then tried to format my card using my camera. It got half way through before giving me a card error. So I tried formatting it with Windows XP making sure it was FAT not FAT32. Still gave me the same problem when inserting it in my camera.

Now I know it's not the camera at fault because I have tried other xD cards in it with and without other data on it and it works fine. Even formats it fine. I tried putting the card in another camera with pretty much the same effect but it didnt give me the option to format the card.

I really don't want to send it away for warranty claim but I will have to if nobody here could help me out in the next few days.

Thanks alot

Glen

Here is a link to my adaptor, they are always available to buy.

Glen, it sounds like it's probably bad to me.

If you know someone with a fuji camera, then format the card in that camera, then you could be lucky, that the card works again.
I have tried it with one of mine card, that suddenly did not work, now it works again, but without the panorama funktion which i did not use anyway.

Krod,
Try the "Zero Assumption Digital Image Recovery" software
You can download it from "http://www.z-a-recovery.com"
It worked on my smartmedia. It can recover from any type of
memory cards provided you use a card reader.
Hope this helps
