Default Question On buying a uzi

Hi, I have been browsing the web sellers for a C2100. I ran across one at AppleElectronics.com that indicates it's a new unit. $465.00 with a one year warranty. It does say that it is in plain box, not the normal retail box! Is this some indication that it's not a "clean" deal? It does list all the accessories. I have never dealt with this company. A few months ago, I purchased a C730 from buydig.com and had a very good experiance with them. They do not have the 2100 listed. The uzi, being a discontinued product does worry me a little as far as parts and service goes! From what I have read on the forums, it's probably worth risk involved! Thanks for any help or other suggestions you might have, Bob R.

Bob

I was not able to find any rating sites that listed Apple Electronics. I would be careful to buy a "new" unit that was in non Olympus packaging. Who is the one year warranty with? If it is not with Olympus, I suspect a repackaged camera or gray market camera.

I own both a new and a refurbished UZI, each purchased earlier this year. The new one came in a red box with all the camera graphics on it and a one year warranty from Olympus. The refurbished one came in a generic blue Olympus box with a sticker on it indicating what was in the box. It came with a 90-day warranty from Olympus.

I can't vouch for the company you mentioned above, but if you want to ensure that you get a new one, here's the questions to ask; get your answers in writing if possible:

1. Is this a new Olympus camera in an unopened red box with a US warranty from Olympus?
2. Are all of following items in the box (ask them to open the box and physically inspect it!):
- C-2100 camera
- 8MB Olympus brand smartmedia card
- 4 1600 maH Olympus AA batteries
- Olympus charger and cord
- RM-1 remote
- Olympus lens cap
- USB cable
- A/V cable to use in United States
- Olympus camera strap
- Camedia 2.0 software CD
- BOTH English and multilingual instruction manuals

If any of the answers to these two questions, in part or in whole, is "No," then it is not in my opinion a new unit. My refurbished unit came with all of the above except a lens cap, and you can pick up one on eBay for $10 or so.

As for parts and service, Olympus has an excellent reputation, so I wouldn't worry about being able to get it fixed. It may be costly, though, if you have to get it fixed out of warranty-- not only in terms of price, but having to do without your camera for a month or so. For that reason, I purchased a second UZI to use as a backup if I had any problems. I hope this helps! If you have any other questions, please let us know.

Default Thanks

I sent them a e-mail, asking a few pertinent questions. It's been two days and they haven't answered! That must tell you something about their operation!
Thanks for the replies, I'll keep looking! Bob
