Default C-5050z: all erase non existent?

Hi,
The manual says: under card setup, there are two options: all erase and format.
In my camera I get only the format option and no all erase .
Is it this way with all the c-5050z cameras?
Is formatting every time you want to empty the card, a good thing to do?
Thanks for your opinions.
Maurice.

I know on my c-2100 I can format in any mode. But I can only delete in play mode, and that is where I can find the delete all option.

Thanks!
This is also the case here.
I must have looked for this option in shooting mode, where it is non existent.
My old digicam was very different. I have to get to know my new one.
Thanks again!

Your welcome, it takes awhile to get used to all the functions on a oly camera. Once you learn them all, it's pretty simple.

Default Formatting

Formatting won't hurt the card. I have heard some experts recommend it every time. Others say with a 256 CF card you should format ervery time or the card will develop errors. I have not found this to be the case, so far. As I have surfed many forums and especially the Oly E-10 forum (which is now non-existent) I found people who format every time and never at all and every combination in between and no one ever has a problem either way. It doesn't appear to matter.

my 5050 allows all erase AND format. Format is not a better solution especially for larger cards, because it does a different thing: if you have a couple of hundred photos in your card and you want to keep, say 15 of them, you can lock them and all-erase the card; they will be kept and all the others will be erased. with formating, you dont get to keep any. the other alternative is to erase one by one (yeah right)!!
