Default red eye reduction setting on D40

I was fiddling around with the red-eye reduction button on my D40 and it appears that I can only turn on this feature in 2 modes - P and A/S/M....is this correct??

It seems weird that I would not be able to utilize the red-eye reduction feature in ALL modes..

Any help is appreciated.

Actually it should be only P and A modes because the red eye mode needs to alter the shutter speed, and it can't do that in S or M modes.

As for why not in the other modes, only Oly knows why.
