Default FL-40?

I was thinking about buying the FL-40 flash for my olympus c-5050z. What do you guys think? I need a bounce flash and I was hoping the FL-40 would be a good buy.

its probably the best buy for the 5050 given you like using a flash. I dont, and shoot most of my photos with available light; but when i do use a flash, my previous sunpack has all the manual features such as zoom, power settings, sync settings and bounce. If you can afford it, knock yourself out: there are better flashes out there for the price, but are not dedicated to the oly.

I think I will get it. Bounce flash photos are 10x better than using a regular flash and I like to take pictures of people. What all do I need to purchase with the FL-40? I know it connects directly to the C-5050Z but do I need anything else?

Thanks!

The 5050 doesn't support TTL on the hotshoe, so the extra features on the FL-40 would not be supported. Perhaps other flashes (cheaper alternatives) would sufice in this case.

What would be a cheaper alternative? All I really want is a flash that can swivel etc. so I can use a bounce flash. I'm not very knowledgable about this subject and I was wondering what else would work for such a basic purpose.

Refer back to thispost, there's a link there about flash units for Olympus cameras:

Also, what would be required to have all the features of the FL-40 available to the C5050z

Ah, my mistake. I didn't read the reviews and took the information from that link as being accurate. Sorry about that :P

As for recommendation, if you plan on staying in the Olympus family of cameras in the future, get the FL-40. But if you would like to use the flash on a non Olympus brand camera later on you can pick a non dedicated flash (no ttl), or a Metz or Promaster with the correct shoe adapter.
