Default C-730 download problem

I have a new Olympus C-730. The instructions warned me that my Operating System might not support image downloads because I'm using a Windows 98 upgrade from Windows 95. Sure enough, when I tried to get images from the camera using Camedia Master Pro, it didn't recognize my camera.

Now what? Would getting the MAUSB-10 card reader solve my problem?

Thanks!

Virtually any card reader that will read SmartMedia cards will work just fine.

Alisande,
Have you used a USB device with computer before? could be some issues with BIOS/OS. Let me know, so I do not do needless typeing.

No, I haven't gone the USB route with this computer before. I have a newer one, but was hoping to use the Windows 98 model for photo processing.

Computer built with 95 had 98% of time USB disabled in motherboard bios. when upgradeing to 98 usb must be enabled prior to install so 98 can be set up to support USB.

And don't use Camedia to download images...the camera will appear on your computer as an external drive, so go into Windows Explorer (or My Computer) and go to the new drive that should be there.

Tip, create a folder on your computer called C730, and then drag your pictures from the camera's drive letter to the C730 folder on your hard drive.

I would guess that you are running the first version of Win98. USB support was introduced in Win98SE (Second Edition) so you'll need to uprade to at least this in order to use any USB device.

Wasn't it introduced into Win98B? SE came out after Win98D, didn't it?

You could actually be right there.

Alisande, try the USB evaluator on this page (within the answer to Q1). If this tells you that you don't support USB, you'll have to upgrade your OS I'm afraid (unless anyone knows of a USB patch for Win98)

I'm sure I'm asking the obvious, but did you try installing the USB drivers off the Camedia CD? And the other thing is, like Mike_PEAT said, Camedia won't download images, you access them as normal files in Windows Explorer and cut/copy/paste from there.
