ok, the camera worked fine the first week of use, now it's doing something funny. on "auto" mode it can't seem to focus on single frame shooting mode. when i switch it to AF sequential frame and/or the flash is open, it focuses fine. it also can't seem to lock focus quickly anymore; on all modes. the spot focusing doesn't work either now. what's going on? i sent it back to olympus and they sent it back to me with the same problem.

Have you tried a "reset" of the camera? Maybe you have a combination of settings that prevent the autofocus to work the way you want. (can't think of any right now, but who knows?)

Just an idea.

reset it twice already and still can't get the spot focusing to come back. i guess i'm gonna have to return this again to olympus.

i can't believe no one else has these issues. i went into a fry's electronics and played around with their floor model and it had the same problems my camera had; no spot focusing.

and yes, i have tried P mode and turned the spot focus on without any luck.

Just to clarify:

1) you can't activate spot AF OR

2) you activated spot AF and it won't focus correctly?

Have you checked if you accidently activated the manual focus?

Am pretty confused here - never ran into this problem - only encountered slow AF and dependent on light on object malfunction. But not as a general focussing problem?

Ah I see...

I'll look at my cam to see if I can reproduce this. I noticed that several combinations of settings disable others. Example: you can't use noise reduction when shooting in burst mode, even if you use the AF burst one.

So I bet it's just a combo of settings that prevent you from setting spot AF.

Regards,

Th.

P.S. Please allow a bit of time, I have tons of things to do today.

Hello,

I tried yesterday, but my cam won't disable single spot AF for me... what parameters do you have on your cam? Can you please post here?

I know it's a bit of work, but I would try to do the same settings on my cam to see if it has the same problems then. Ofc you could do a similar thing in your local store.

If you do so - please include all information, i.e.
  • which program (P or else?)[/*]
  • all settings in the menu's (including pic, card, and so on)
[/*]
We will get that thing working - just wait and see!
