I have an Olympus C 770. One of the shooting modes is the "sports mode". I heard someone say that the sport mode is only good for outdoor sports and that it is no good for indoor sports like basketball. Does anyone know if this is true?

"Sports" mode increases the shutter speed, often at the expense of aperture. It does thiswhether you are indoors or out. Whether or not a camera can take indoor sports shots is determined by how fast the lens is, or by how much ISO it has (or a combination of both). Unfortunately, most p&s cameras do not have enough ISO to get high shutter speeds in places such as a basketball gym.

In order to get high shutter speeds in a place like a gym, you need a dslr. Only those will give you the ISO you need, along with adequate zoom as well, if needed.

My suggestion is to try it out both inside and outdoors.
