Default C5050 zoom mechanism....

Hi, just upgraded to c5050 from a c3000. the camera is great, but i was wondering if anyone elses zoom mechanism is rather loud and not so smooth sounding while its operating......went to a local best buy to try their demos, but kinda hard to tell as the store is so noisy.....hope it's normal.
thanks,
Rick

i also went from the 3000 to the 5050, and found the zoom to be the same if not a little less noisy. I heard a lot of people say that noise develops in time a little, but this kind of equipment is so precise ( read: delicate) that i would check that out if i were you.

Can you record the sound of the zoom and email it to us, we can then tell you whether it sounds normal.

dal81,

have you bring the camera back to the store and compared the noise with the one they displayed ? What about the store's policy ? It's hard to members to help you if the camera is not at hand.

When I just got the camera (1st digital !), I was a little shock to hear the sound of the "ON" camera, then the noise of the zoom... I get used to it after few shootings ! Evertything is OK so far.

Love my c5050 !

It's noisier than the C-3000Z but that's fine. The C-3000Z was a piece of junk compared to the C-5050Z, glad I upgraded.

i dont know cheese, i though the 3000 was a great camera... I wouldnt change it if my company did not buy it from me (hence being able to get the 5050)

There has been alot of advances in the digital camera world, but to call the c3000 a piece of junk is a little harsh. The C5050 is a much better camera with many more features than the C3000 hence a great buy for you.

I have a C-3000Z sitting in the C-5050Z box in a closet. The C-3000Z is absolute junk compared to the C-5050Z. Note "compared to". The C-3000Z is a great camera for a beginner and I would recommend it to anyone but it holds no competition against the C-5050Z.
