I've had my c720 for about 2 years, and a few months ago it started having problems... sometimes (and recently, often) when I try to take a picture, instead of taking a picture the camera freezes and the red light on the back flashes for a long time. While this is happening it is totally unresponsive- I cannot turn the camera off or anything. It usually takes several minutes for it to recover. Taking the batteries out can force it to turn off and "reset" but obviously this isn't acceptable as a long-term solution! Any ideas?? I'm ready to sell it for parts on ebay since it's so unreliable...

I don't know how widespread it was, but that problem with the C720 has been reported before. The only"fix" I've ever seen was to open and close the battery door.

This may be a long shot but I had a similar problem with my C5050. Believe it or not it turned out to be a corrupted xD card. Changed the card and problem gone. Give it a try, never know.

it probably is a bad card,if i am right the 720 uses smartmedia, the same thing (hanging) happens when you put a corrupted disk or cd or you try to open a corrupted file on your computer...
