Default C-50 vs. Canon S-45...down to 2!

I have a gift certificate and can purchase either. Any thoughts on the superiority of one over the other (other than 4 vs. 5 megapixels) would be much appreciated. I take many night shots, and enlarge a great deal. Need compact.

Hi Jerry

I don't know about Canon, but the C50Z is almost useless at night.

The autofocus works very poorly in low light.

The camera has no manual focus, so you need some external light source to assist the autofocus.

The 4 vs 5 mp is a mute point with me. At 4mp and above you will obtain excellent photo results. The C50 and S45 have similar lens and would produce the same low light shooting problems. However, the C50 does have manual setting controls as pointed out in Steve's Review: "No matter what you want in the way of features this camera has got it -- from "point-n- shoot" AUTO to Program AE, shutter speed priority, aperture priority or full manual with shutter speeds as long as 8 seconds." A shutter speed of 8 seconds will absorb alot of light and noise. The C50 does not have a noise reduction function for longer shutter speeds. The s45 does have noise reduction for longer shutter speeds. If you interest in low light shooting, consider the Olympus C5050 (5mp) or the Olympus C4040 (4mp), both have excellent optics for low light shots.
