With any digital camera it's best to read ALL the manuals (including the reference manual that's on the CD), practice, and you may also want to read general digital photography books...a good place to start is your local library. Also, check on the web...for instance, here is a site that's a free online "book" on digital photography:

Mike and Geof have provided you with good advice, but most important start shooting. Start with auto mode and shoot, shoot, etc. The beauty of digital you can shoot all you want and the cost is zero.

A big help in using the camera is to print out the manual on the CD. I did it and had is spiral bound at Kinkos for $5 including a back and front cover. I used a laser and should have made two pages per 8.5 x 11. I understand that some copy services won't print it out from the CD. Office Max has been reported to print out the manual from the CD per the info on some forums.

The manual isn't the best, but it sure provides a good place to start.

Default CD Manual is good start.

Ron, is completely right. I printed out the whole manual and then put it into a binder with clear sheets and it is a big help in learning this new camera. I am a NIKON fan and this is a little different; but printing this out helps.
