Default Storage cards

Can Compact Flash cards be used with this camera or can you strictly only use SM cards? How are those San Disk cards?

The C-4000 can only accept SmartMedia cards. SanDisk cards are fine--I have three of them (two 128MB and one 64MB) and they've been performing flawlessly.

The Olympus-brand SM cards (that cost bundles more) has the panorama feature enabled, that provides two features when you want to stitch sequential photos together: exposure lock and vertical guidelines (so that you'll know where to take the next photo). On the C-4000, the exposure lock can be achieved on any brand of SmartMedia card by using the Auto Exposure Lock feature. I don't find the vertical guide lines all that useful, but others do--your mileage may vary.

Also be advised that there are ways you can hack 3rd party SM cards to fool the camera into thinking they are Olympus brand cards and thus activate panorama mode. From what I've read, it works pretty well & is simple to do, but since I don't have a use for the panorama mode, I haven't tried it on my SM card. Oh yeah, the hack also voids warranty (5 years) on my SanDisk cards...

The Olympus C5050 can use Compact Flash, Smart Media, Xd card, and microdrive.
