Default Trade in my d-520 and get a d-550?

I have a D-520 Olympus right now and I guess that I am just looking for somthing with a little better quality, would it be worth it spending a bit more and getting the 550?

While D-550 is a fine camera, it's been discontinued. Olympus just announced D-560 as the replacement. It's almost identical to the 550--same price, too ($299). It uses xD instead of SmartMedia, the lens is slightly slower (550 = f/2.9-4.4, 560= f/3.1-5.2).

For a little bit more money, I'd strongly suggest moving up to the Olympus C-4000. It's a better camera in just about all respects--faster lens, better macro function, programmable My Modes, etc.

I vote with Hyun, go the distance with the c4000.

I will look into the C-4000, although I am a little hard pressed on cash at the moment, I am layed off and back to school, so this may be a future camera for me. I guess I will just stick with what I got now and spend some cash later on in the year and get somthing really nice. Does the c-4000 seem bulky at all? I noticed that it is quite a bit bigger. Maybe this is better, not sure.

The 4000 is noticeably larger than the 550, and the lens mount sticks out about an inch from the body, too--whereas the -550's lens retracts into the body and the handy sliding door shuts over it, making it an ideal pocket-and-go type of camera.

The 4000 comes with neckstrap eyelets.

For me, the increased functionality of the 4000 is well worth the sacrificed pocketability. Places like buydig.com sells the 4000 for $339.
