Default Olympus D-550 vs. Kodak DX4330

Can anyone give me their opinion on which camera seems to be the better between the Olympus D-550 and the Kodak DX4330. I am looking for a basic point and shoot digital camera.

The oly d550 would be my choice between the two cameras. I think Oly has the better optics.

FYI, D-550Z has been discontinued. Olympus just announced a successor, D-560Z. Same price, same megapixels, true 3x optical zoom (the 550 was a 2.8x optical zoom, for the purists out there), xD storage (larger maximum capacity then SmartMedia). The lens is very slightly slower, but that's probably not going to be a problem for its intended market (point and shoot, auto-everything family camera).

Is the only difference between the D-550z and the D-560z the zoom?

Oh, I left out that the D-560 uses an xD card and not SmartMedia. I have an old Fuji .8 megapixel camera and I have a couple of SmartMedia cards for it. Do you know if the new xD card and SmartMedia are compatible or not?

PDClowr,

I don't believe xD and SmartMedia are compatible.

I just re-checked the D-560Z specs, and noticed that it only uses 2 AA-sized batteries. The D-550Z uses 4. I'd imagine that you'd run out of power quicker with the D-560Z.

Other than xD, very slight change in zoom power, and the batteries, the two do seem rather identical.

I love my D-550. It is good on batterys. The 10x zoom really helps in getting nice and close. The default resolution make the picture real crisp. I did a lot of home work before buying this camera. So I recommend this one. So far four of my friends went and bought one to and they really like it.
Hope that helps

Default Thanks to all!

I just ordered a D-550z. It should arrive by mid or end of week. Thanks for all the replies. I decided on it instead of the D-560 since I already have SmartMedia for my Fuji.

Thanks again.
