Does anyone know what has happened to the Oly C-7070/8080 WZ? These are great cameras. Did Oly discontinue them? Will they replace them with a newer model? Thanks

I asked the same question of a sales assistant and the reply was..
as per standard marketing procedure goes, once a company makes all the money they can they change the model to create more interest in their products. Hence this is why they changed the 8080.

The more expensive digital SLRs hold their worth longer as they are made to a standard not a consuner market.(eg Canon 20D)

Hope this helps.

Even though I have just bought the twin lens E500 kit I would not part with my 8080. It'a a terrific camera bearing in mind its limitations.

Ben-

I agree with you. The Olympus C-8080 was a great digital camera. You ocassionally see them on ebay but the few remaining new C-8080 cameras are selling PREMIUM prices.

The C-8080 is too old. It uses the old 2/3 8 MP CCD. Cameras with that CCD require an unnecessary big lense, whence production is too expensive. I do like the C-7070, though. It is much smaller than the C-8080 and uses the fine 1/1.8 7 MP CCD, has a very nice zoom range and the lense is very sharp. Unlike most Olympus cameras, you are not required to use idotic XD memory cards, but you can't shoot panoramas with CF cards.

I can't agree that the C8080 is too old. Some of my best pictures ever have been taken with it. The lens is stunning but as ever the marketing boys at Oly made sure it didn't get the lifespan it deserved. It will still get used even though I have the E500. The macro facility is awesome. The comment about xD cards is irrelavent - who uses them to do panos anyway?
