The story so far......

Travelling through South America our intrepid adventurer finds that after a 20 hour bus trip his Canon IxusII is switched on in its bag (our explorer has since been told about auto power down) and on the screen there isan ancient unreadable script about the card being "formated"??? So like all technophobes who shouldn't be sold anything that does not come in pairs and spark when you bash them together he turns it off and then back on again........ and hey presto "NO IMAGE" The question is, can the images be saved and what is formating.

Formatting deletes everything on the card. However it does this by "hiding" the files and so there are some special programs that can reclaim your images even after formatting. This will only work if you don't take any more pictures on that card so it depends how important the lost pictures are.:?

Try a google search for 'recover lost images'.
