Default Replacement to c-4000

A guy at teh store the other day said that he thought the c-4000 was going to be discontinued this summer. Has anybody heard the same? If so, what have you heard about a replacement.

I would say that the tech store guy is correct. Olympus brings out a new line of cameras every year. They then will replace their current model with the new model (similar to new car turnover). You will still be able to buy the camera, memory, and support from Olympus. They are releasing two new models of ultrazoom cameras in May.

Just to show an example using the C-7x0UZ line:

C-700UZ Mar.2001
C-720UZ May 2002
C-730UZ Sept. 2002
C-740UZ April 2003
C-750UZ May 2003

I don't think Oly announced anything along the C-4000 line at PMA.

In Australia, I telephoned Olympus here to ask why stores here were running out of stock and not re-ordering (as I want to buy one).
I was advised by Oylmpus that the product has been discontinued here. Also that they do not what replacement there might be.

yea - Best Buy here stopped ordering it as well. I grabbed a Canon A70. Nice little camera but still has the soft Canon image. I think when the replacement to the 4000 comes out, I'll grab it as my "nice" camera and keep the a70 for running around.

The folks in the stores here don't know jack. A guy told me the other day that there wasn't a 750. When I corrected him he said that the only difference betweent he 740 (which they had just started stocking - best buy) and the 750 was a software upgrade. Thank god for the forums.

They want to sell you what they got in stock...I don't know why Oly even bothered with the 740 (or the 720). It's like the lower power setting on a regular vaccuum cleaner...do you want to clean less?

Stores like WorstBuy will only get the cheaper 740 (I bet)...you'll have to go to a camera store for the 750.
