Default I think my C-5050Z is having problems...

I've noticed that occasionally, when I turn on the camera, it will beep several times and become unresponsive. My solution is to turn it off and then back on again, then the problem is fixed. By the way, the lens cap that came with it should be removed BEFORE you turn on the camera. Weird, weird, weird...

I've also noticed that it seems to have a problem with the PNY CF memory card (256) I just bought for it. One time, it said that the card needed to be formatted. So, did it. It worked fine. Then later it said I needed to format card, surprisingly again. So I tried to format the card (with camera) and it gave me a card error. I opened the door, re-seated the card and it worked.

Is there a reset to factory settings on the camera? Maybe I set somehting incorrectly?

Any helpful suggestions?

Do you have any problems with the XD card that came with the camera? Have you tried another CF card?

I'll try it tonight to see if it's only the CF card or the xD one.

Kareem, any further feedback.

The same thing happened to me with a Transcend 512Mcb 30X CF card. It initially worked, I took a few picture, then it asked to be formatted again. It then gave a "card error" on the format and has never worked in the 5050 again.

I have tested it on the computer with three different readers, formatted and scandisk'd it on the reader, all fine. I have tested it with at least four different Nikon and canon cameras. All fine.

But it still doesn't work in the 5050. Any ideas?

Other small (and slow) CF cards work fine in the 5050, so the CF slot is not totally defective.

The xD slot seems to be fine, I have a 256Mb Fuji xD card.

Tried leaving it without batteries for 48 hours, but no luck.

I think that it is a firmware issue on the 5050 (v77 is a dud!).

Only Olympus don't provide firmware support.

So now my 5050 is an xD only camera. Great, isn't it!

Wish that people would support their products!

I agree with Steve.

What ever priority of shipping is the same method that Olympus will return it. You could also return it to the vendor if it has not been to long. Did you ever try another CF card?

I cannot return the camera to Olympus as I have only have a foreign warranty on it which is unusable due to shipping costs.

The only solution is a firmware upgrade and Olympus doesn't provide this type of support (as do Nikon, Canon, Pentax, Sigma, Minolta, Fuji, etc).

The Transcend 512Mb 30X works in an any Nikon and Canon that I could find, and smaller (64Mb, 256Mb) CF cards do work in the 5050.

I am sure that this is a memory timing issue that could likely be resolved by a firmware upgrade.
