I was just playing around with the zoom on my 5700 tonight. Never really tried the digital zoom but, to be honest it is not as bad as I thought.
All pics have been resized from 2560x1920 to 600x450 for ease of viewing. No PS adjustments, just straight from the camera. http://www.pixett.ca/photos/zoom-test/ As always, comments welcome ![]() -=- |

The 32x photos are NOT terribly pixelated, but they are a little blurry. Can this be attributed to hand shake?
I don't expect that the digital zoom could ever be as sharp as true optical zoom, but from your pictures you don't lose much detail to pixelation. Rather it seems that the camera re-samples the image and sharpens it inside the camera. So the end result would be that you get fairly detailed, but blurry pics. Not too bad for a consumer digicam. |

Hi Lauren,
I had the camera on the tripod so is was fairly steady. The original 32x digital zoom 2560x1920 does look pixelated however, when I resized to 600x450 the pixelation turned into blur. I haven't done any editting to the photos yet, I'll play around with them then resize to see what the difference is ![]() |
