Default photo critique wanted (moved to here)

After such and so many photo's of city life, I would like to improve my skills on that subject. (Somehow I feel quite clumsy with most photos)

You can see the quality level I'm now at http://www.desk.nl/mupe/photos/albertcuyp/index.htm (shots of street market at closing hour)
From my point of view about 99% of these photos has either 1 or more (un)technical/framing shortcomming to stand out as 'keen eye special'. If any expert would be so kind to poor critique and help me improve knowledge (or help forget some technical rules), I would be gratefull.

I try with most of these photos to express city life and beauty of chaos. 15 photos for inspection is a bit much so I pick two photos that aren't at best; http://www.desk.nl/mupe/photos/alber...W_0027_RT8.htm
Why doesn't this picture 'snap'? (lacks jazz?)
I liked the colorfull beam ends, but also wanted to keep a hint of scenery around it (not fully zoom on the ends). This photo could have been better, if I did what?

Some photos (Especially were people have accidental became the subject ) may improve if they are b/w. At this point I just put them on-line as is out of the camera.
