This was pretty far away, I'm guessing close to 1/4 mile. My parents live on top of a hill, so you can see pretty far off in the distance. I took this with my S5000's optical all the way out, and the 2.2X digital all the way out too. Full auto, with a little bit of contrast added back in to help make up for all the zoom, also a light treatment of unsharp mask. I'm surprised this one came out as well as it did, considering I didn't have the tripod with me. I think I'm finally starting to get used to having to hold the camera still again. I got spoiled with the older Sony I have, as it has image stabilization built-in. I've had a hard time getting back in the habit of being really steady....

It's funny, the angle I got this at, it looks like this train is coming up the road, as you can't see the tracks at all!

EDIT: That's the neighbor's barn in the background just in front of and behind the train engine.
