We visited Cochem for a long weekend to explore the wine culture. The Mosel River runs from France at its source to the Rhine at Koblenz in Germany. In between lie very rich wine growing slopes along the winding valleys that the river has cut over centuries. The Romans first brought wine growing to this region when it became too difficult to transport wine over the Alps to their troops throughout Europe.
Their legacy is everywhere in Germany.
That is a vineyard in front of the castle, and there are many more on the left.
