![]() I just came back on this topic a few minutes ago (10:40 p.m.) and was able to view the slide show. Nice work. I recall hearing one of Davis' ''Blues'' tunes way back back in the early tomiddle fifties. I'm not sure which one it was but it was nine minutes long. It didn't mean anything to me then because all we heard was rock 'n' rolland blues. Needless to say atthe age of 14 or 15 I wasn't really interested at the time but eventually, over the years I grew to appreciate this type of uniquely American music. I have to admit however that the evolution from the traditional jazz sound to the Bebopand Avante Garde typeput me on hold for awhile. I guess in this sense one would have to be a musician to really understand and come to grips with the flaying of the notes in sustained movement. (I hope I haven't confused the names.) An interesting side note here: Locksley ''Slide'' Hampton and his family used to practice two houses up from me in the very early fifties in Indianapolis, IN. I can't place an age on him at the timebuthe may have been in his early twenties then. Cheers buddy. |
