Hey Ty...yeah good idea. This guy was less than half an inch in size so I was sceptical about getting anything at all. But I was inspired to try by all the masters on here. I have no idea as to how they get their shots as crisp and clear as they do, but I guess I will never find out till I try and try and try.....
If I was back in India, I would have my pick of Big huge spiders and all other kinds of bugs and insects to shoot...but here in LA...its a rarity. seth |

I believe that is one of the Wolf spiders but there are many varieties and I couldn't tell you which one it is. |

Iput the FZ20 into macro mode, left the zoom at 1x, and set the white balance to flash. You can see the shadow of the lens off the flash in the first picture. |

As PG Wodehouse would have said " The usual method when knocking down spiders for taking pictures, is to aim at the nerve just below the left jaw, at a time when the spider is reaching for its rear with it's head, for gathering the web resin....".Trust PGW to describe the most unusual happenings as if those wereperfectly normal events with a well laid out procedure.
I hope youfollowed the procedure to the letter, when knocking down the spidy.:G |

bobc, Just so you know...when i go camping or on trips out of the US, I also wear bug repellant (or as you would call it...insect starvation cream). I guess as pious as you are in your consideration of God's creatures you would just let them feast on your flesh rather than swat them off or stomp on them. But we can't all be like you, right?
God bless us...apparently you don't need any (cause are a saint) seth |

Raid, hammer, shotgun, I don't care. Every season is open season for bug hunting. Take all the pics you want of them...

I caught a fly and put him in the fridge. Slows em down a bunch then when you take em out they "pose" for a bit till they get warmed up and run away.
Happens to many bugs every night when temps drop anyway |
