Tried the Red Dot sight to work around the problem of the EVF and LCD blanking out in burst mode. Found the sight easy to install, easy to sight in, easy to use and most important it works GREAT ! Tried over a hundred test shots with airplanes and birds in flight and not one miss ! Jim

How does that affect weight and balance for the camera?

Will, It's much lighter than an external flash unit. I didn't really notice any additional weight when using the camera, even though I know there is some added weight. As to the balance, because it's installed on the hot shoe it is pretty evenly balanced and I don't notice any difficulty in keeping the camera lined up on the subject or object being shot. It does make a big difference in the quality of the pictures being taken in burst mode. Because your using a small red dot it seems to make it easier to keep your subject in frame. And it is much easier to locate the subject when in full zoom! Bottom line is I would buy and install this again after using it ! Jim

Neat looking set-up Jim. Do you focus using the EVF and than switch your eye to the red dot to track and, if so, is that awkward? And, of course, the all important, what's the cost?

Hi Ted, I have been adjusting the zoom to the correct setting to keep the subject within the frame and then just using the red dot to locate and track the subject ! It's not awkward at all and really feels comfortable to do it this way. I have been trusting the auto focus on the shutter to take care of keeping the subject in focus and then just shoot away! I think I like this better than a non-blanking EVF ! One thing I really like is being able to locate a moving target at full zoom much faster than using the EVF or LCD ! As to the cost the unit which mounts on the hotshoe and to which you attach the sight is $21 plus shipping and the sight itself is $37 + shipping ! It's a really well made unit ! Jim
PS if your interested in one let me know and I'll give you the info on ordering.
