This is my contribution. We always called these creatures Devil Horses. They eat all the foliage and currently are devouring the Irises.

Here is another shot of the Devil Horse. Does anyone know the real name of these creatures. Colors vary somewhat from black and yellow to black and red. these have red under the wings. I believe they must belong to the grasshopper family.
