I saw this little guy on my porch this morning. It was shot handheld at ground level. I used aperture mode on f/11 and 0.5 sec shutter. Turned out pretty good to me. I'm somewhat new to macro photography still but it's quickly becoming my favorite type. Ohh yeah, did a bit of PP and NR as well.

Looks good. He'sa cute little bugger!
Only thing I might sugest is to crop a little closer if you can. Nice thing about a profile shot like that is you pretty much get the whole subject in focus even with the shallow DOF. Good job! |

RedStickMan, thanks man. Yeah I could've cropped closer, I'll do that next time. And also I'm going to try a bounced flash to get the subject more evenly lit. The head is in a bit of a shadow. |

Great photo of this little guy. I also just started with macro. Got a DCR-150. Taken a few shots so far. Not much to see here, it is so dry and hot right now.
I am somewhat confused, however. Wouldn't the F11 aperture give more DOF than say 2.8 or 3.7 F-Stop? BayouRebel |

Yes, f/11 does give a greater DOF but since I used a macro lens it makes it a lot more shallow. And this is only a +2.9 diopter, your dcr-150 is a +4 so it would even be more shallow. And it also depends if you do full zoom or not. If you go to like 7x or 8x you'd definetely get more DOF. But in my shot I did 12x zoom. |

Thanks for explaining the DOF. Your cropped version is definitely more vibrant.
Also, like it as your new avatar. Jerry |
