I have been attempting moon shots lately with my FZ30, but mine all turn out like your first one. What settings/mode would you suggest I use to get the clarity of your second shot?
Thanks. |

Fred,
I hope you don't mind me jumping in on your post here but I took advantage of a clear night to snap some moon shots with the new FZ7. So here is the best of the group. 100% cropped to just the moon. Taken in 3mp EZ mode @ 16.5x optical plus used the Oly C180, I'm starting to love this lens. ISO 80, F 4.5, 1/160 |

Just one more this one with the Ricoh 200min 4mp EZ 14.6x optical zoom. Again 100% crop of moon area.
ISO 80, F5.6, 1/200 |

Brett - Yes, the c-180 looks like it's working very nicely with the fz7. People would do well to get one of the oly c- series (c-160 1.5x, c-180 1.7x, and c-210 1.9x)at theirebay store (Olympus America) starting at $10 with $3 s/h. They are nice and light and have 52mm threads thusscrew right into the stock fz7 adapter. For a very reasonable price you can get a good idea of what a tele converter can do. |

Thanks, Willow. The moon is way overdone but fascinating nevertheless as are tree branches, thus the first shot. The second just moves the moon way over to the left side of the frame rather than in the middle where it usually resides. Both images are resized only.

Great shots,
I also want to share my moon shot taken (with my FZ5) two hours ago. Took it by hand, only resting the lens on a post. An aperture of f3.3 and shutter of 1/500s. The picture is just cropped, no adjustments or filters have been used. Even though my picture can not compete with the previous pictures of bmccoy, I still think the FZ5 is doing an impressive job. |

vdbig - You might get it a little sharper by closing down the apertureto f5 and reducing the shutter speed. With OIS handheld is still very achievable at 1/300s or so at 12x zoom.

Thanks for the information fmoore, I will try it as soon as I get a new opportunity.
Even if I know the result can be a lot better, I am still satisfied with my first ever moon shot. |
