Can i just ask if you think it is worth upgrading from the FZ20 to the FZ30 I know this has been covered in other threads but i believe you have both cameras. I think i read it in a previous thread. The most annoying thing i find with the FZ20 is the situation of the SD card. It very annoying when you have to keep taking it off the tripod to take the card out. Ican live with this but i see that the FZ30 has the card on the side a bit like my dimage a2. and do you think that the Raynox 2020 performs better on the FZ30 any info much appreciated mark |

Gene,
Ditto, those are great shots and better results than I seem to be getting. In all fairness its probably your talent & my inexperience. I got what I could from your exif, but I want to try to duplicate the conditions, which will involve putting some suet 20' from my window. Were your shots on a tripod, if so was OIS off? Also, other than 3EZ, what were your picture settings? I'm trying to as much as possible remove the human element from the experiment. If the camera is on a tripod, set for autofocus, AP with the same aperture, etc., there's only so much I can to to screw up the shot:?. If I'm still getting soft images lacking in the kind of detail of your downy, then I've got to assume a focus issue w/ my specific camera, which, ironically, would make me feel a whole lot better... As always, thanks for your expertise. One more thing, could I trouble you to post one of your better shots of a yardbird at about 45' with the Raynox 2020 @12x, preferably through glass? I've got a lot of them under different conditions I'd like to check, and you are a really good benchmark, you seem to have this camera pretty well mastered. --==Neil==- |

I will try to answer each question ......I am not really all that fond of the RAynox 2020 but I think it did work a little better on the fz20 except for the vignetting....It needs to set as close as possible to the FZ20 lens as possible but on the FZ 30 it seems a spacer helps it a bit but I am still trying to figure that out for sure......While I use Program mode most of the time I think the 2020 works better at about F6.2 and that requires a lot of light.
I will try to get a photo with that lens at 45 ft tomorrow. And none of these photos are with a tripod but I use IS 2 and do not turn off the IS when using a tripod. I really do think the FZ30 is well worth the price...it is a truely great camera...and I do not understand the noise thing there is some noise but it is no worse than the FZ20 in fact In most circumstances its much better. I am not a huge fan of the 2020 but the Tcon17 really works well on the FZ30.....if the only thing that bugs you about the FZ20 is the door get a plate like this ...I made this one but I have seen them on Ebay. ![]() And that picture of that Chaffinch is quite good ...I would sharpen it a bit, but its very good. |

hi again genece
thanks for the reply this might be a stupid question but what is this IS that you talk about is it the same as iso or am i barking up the wrong tree or is it an option on the FZ30 that the FZ20 doesn't have mark I'm just editing my post after realising it was a stupid question because i've just realised what IS means so no worries |

I am sorry I am a lousey typer....IS = Image stabilization and while some people like mode 1 (and that should be turned off when a tripod is used).
I use mode 2 and find no reason to turn it off except on long exposures. |

Itis good to learn that I am not the only one who take bird photos through the window glass. This is a good thread and very enlightning. Attached is a photo I took though the glass door with no attachements. Just cropped.

Don't know why photo didnt attach will try again. May have to resize. Did have to resize. Also, have not seen the first Robin yet this year. Must have not been cold enough above to send them south.

Gene, I surely don't mind, just wish I knew how to do that. That is what I admire about your posts and several others on here. I have a lot to learn. If you can tell me how to go about that. Was it with photoshop. Your processing is wonderful. thanks.

That was just a levels adjustmentin PS and I tried to sharpen it but because of the resizing I did not get a very good result of the sharpening.
This is a great site for tutorials....look at the workbench area http://www.radiantvista.com/tutorial...&where=%7C |
