A70 vs. LC43

Posted on Canon forum.

I am looking to purchase a new digital camera and I realize that this is a stupid question as it is hard to find a bad review on the Canon, but for $35 more I can get a Panasonic LC43 with rechargeable batteries, charger and 4.0 megapixel. What should I do?

Just a thought, what kind of printer do you have?

2048 x 1536 (3MP) at 1200dpi (dithered from 200) gives a nice 10 x 8 print (10.2 x 7.7 inches)

2304 x 1728 (4MP) at 1440dpi (dithered from 240) gives a slightly smaller 10 x 8 print (9.6 x 7.2 inches)

Epson printers and older Canons do the multiples of 180dpi that make the 1440 a good target resolution, and most other printers do the multiples of 150dpi that suit the 1200 target.

So if you have an Epson go 4MP otherwise you might have to crop the 4MP files to get smoothly dithered prints.

If you don't want to print photos a 1.5MP camera is good enough.

I have a LC33 (3MP) and a Lexmark. Prints turn out very nicely indeed without cropping (or even any adjustments!)

Hope this helps,
Russell
