Kristin, I'm using the FT1, as far as I can tell, you only need the .MTS files. I'm using FCE so it's convoluted converting AVCHD Lite via Handbrake and MPEG Streamclip.

I think a note should be made on this thread that there is AVCHD and AVCHD Lite and they're different... somehow....

Would appreciate any ideas from people using Final Cut Express and AVCHD Lite.

I am considering upgrading from a Panasonic ZS6 to a ZS7, mostly for the GPS and the one button video recording but am worried after readinf the above comments re: AVCHD Lite. I have two computers, one uses XP and the other uses Vista and it sounds like the AVCHD Lite will cause some problems with both downloading and file size. I gather that this is a new and much more powerful codec but not yet very developed for the consumer. Should I make the trade?

Just wanted to thank everyone for this thread.
I got my FZ100 yesterday and tried out the videos.
AVCHD?? What's that? Never heard of it before. Now what?

Now all my questions have been answered. Well, most of them.

Info for WDTV HD Live users -

It seems the latest firmware updates make the WD player not compatible with AVCHD.

1.02.21 & 1.03.49 - plays Avchd files perfectly

1.04.10 - plays the first 5 seconds without audio, then movie pauses while sound catches up - and plays fine after

1.04.17 - gives a 'file not supported' message

1.04.22 (latest version 3-2011) - play files perfectly <not confirmed by me yet>

I'm on a Core Solo Mac mini (early 2006 model) and while iMovie doesn't let me import the AVCHD videos from it (it says a dual core processor is needed), Premiere Elements 9 can import the videos and I'm editing them quite easily with no performance issues at all.
