I agree that it sucks Canadians have no real outlet to get camera equipment cheap. Aden and Hit Camera seem to be the cheapest of the Canadian websites.
I'd like to order a FZ30 from the US but I'm very leary about it since I would hate to receive the camera and find out there are problems with it or something. So in the end I'll probably just pay the Canadian premium and try and find it in London Drugs or somewhere like that. Here in Saskatchewan our choices are even more limited. T |

I wouldn't worry too much about ordering a camera from the U.S. If you buy from a reputable dealer, you should be pretty safe. And it seems the FZ's are pretty good for quality control. You don't hear a lot about defective cameras under their name. And about prices north of the border, it is strange how some items are priced. I have a dslr besides my FZ, and a certain lens I wanted was double the price up here, while another lens of the same brand is the same price or cheaper after exchanges and taxes. Makes no sense. I don't hesitate in buying now from the U.S. Just be careful who you buy from. Oh, and I've never had any duty charges on anything I bought. Just make sure they'll ship it by post and not courier......cheers........thekman.

Guess I won't be ordering my Panasonic FZ30 from the states, here's an email I wrote to warranty support at panasonic.ca:
Hi, I have a question about cross border purcahses. I am interested in purchasing a Panasonic DMC-FZ30 camera and the prices in the US are far lower than the prices that can be found in Canada. If I purchase a camera from a US retailer and need servicing does the camera need to be shipped to the US for the repairs or can I have them done in Canada? And also does the camera need to be purchased from an 'authorized' retailer for the warranty to be valid or will a purchase from any store/site qualify? Thanks And their (prompt) reply: Thank you for your email to Panasonic Canada Inc. Some products found in the USA are lower then products in Canada because of the exchange rate and distance traveled from factory and manufacturing. If a product is purchased in the states it will be under warranty there, and also would have to be repair there. The reason for this is because the product cannot is not manufactured in Canada, therefore there is no parts available for repairing. If a Panasonic Product is purchased from an authorized dealer is will be under warranty in the country it was purchased in. If it is purchased online it is not covered under warranty. We hope this information is of help to you, Thank you, Panasonic Canada Inc. Customer Care Centre No all of that makes a lot of sense, but I definetely don't want to be shipping my camera all over the place if there's a problem with it. ![]() T |

I actually just picked it up at Don's today in Saskatoon. Never been in there before but I had a great experience, friendly staff that could answer all my questions and they matched Aden Camera's $799 price without the slightest hesitation.
Have the battery charging up now. ![]() T |
