I have a Lumix DMC-FZ30 and was wondering what the best setting for capturing action shots inside a gym during volleyball games. Any ideas on where I should start?

If these shots are in a HS gym or a community center it may not be possible with a consumer camera without a flash.

But I will suggest a way for you to figure if you have enough light ....

Set the ISO on 200

Use aperture priority and set at F2.8

I would use one area fast focus or prefocus on a spot.

and snap a few photos.

If they look good your all set.....my guess is they will not look good Raise the ISO to 400 and try again....

Examine the exif and see where things stood... you need a shutter speed of at least 1/125 sec. if none of the trial photos had that speed you pretty much need to use an external flash.

Usually there is enough light in a college gym but not in most other gyms.

If any of the shots are close to acceptable there are a few things that can help but you need to be close first.

And that is how I would go about trying to get things figured out ...but there may be other opinions.
