My cat was laying in the window this morning as the sun was coming up and I thought I would give a go at trying to use my 6T to catch something alive :? (so far I've only had luck with flowers and coins). I personally liked it in black and white but wondered what some of the pro's around here thought.
Just converted to black and white and sharpened in Picasa2 Thanks in advance for the advice and comments! |

I'm not a Pro...just a photo noob. I really like the pic. Very sharp detail. I have a black cat also. Here is a pic of her. No flash used. Looks a bit saturated with orange color. Maybe it was the red-eye reduction thing? I dont know.....but the pic is interesting enough for me to call it a keeper.

The first one is very nice. Maybe a lil bigger would make a greater effect.

Veryy good, and certainly better than the smaller one.
Not only details are clearer (the glare in the eyes) but also the aliasing on the vibrissae and fur is much less. Thanks PS Not sure about the utility of the 6T for this kind of "large"shots- I mean at less than 2x zoom on your FZ20 it certainly does not improve DOF as it is from MA to Tele... |

Good point Narmer part of my problem is my cat won't let me get too close to her with the camera and I really wanted the face as close to full frame as I could get and if I zoom in with the FZ-20 then my focal distance is too far away and I only had about a 2 foot area to work with in terms of distance from her face.
I will have to try it sometime without the 6T and see if I can get the shot to work. Thanks again for your advice! |

It's better to try when the cat is tired or sleeping.
Set your FZ20 in any mode (except for P) and at c. 2,5x zoom, turn the EV compensation at abouit -0,66 at iso 80 and try to be steady (the cat must be too; if it's near a sunny window it's far easier) and as close as you can. [up to 2,5x zoom = 90mm eq, FZ20 lensfocuses at 2cm from any object] |

Nice image Sprice. Available light on cats can really play up the eyes....and they don't get bothered by a flash. The B&W works good with your cat....get rid of that window/door frame and that is super.
Here's the latest avilable light shot I have..table lamp!! Thanks all for sharing your cats. ![]() |

Nice shot Dave. I must have a finicky cat as I can't get very close to her with my camera and she really doesn't like it when I have to use the flash. I'll probably lay off taking pictures of her for awhile and see if she will become more tolerant of me.
