took these shots this evening, just playing with different settings. all were shot from a tripod in aperture mode, and oddly enough, the camera selected a 1 second exposure for all three. ISO 100 for all shots (notice distinct LACK of noise!)... no PP except resizing and a touch of sharpening.

Thanks for pictures Squirl. Very nice. Think I liked the second one best, the lights in the bushes seem to have more effect.
I am going to have a go this weekend. I don't have lights on my own house but there is a road within walking distance where just aboiut every house is illuminated. Also my daughter and son-in-law in Queensland go in for it in a big way. I have forwarded your suggestions and previous photo by email |

I lost my first reply so hope this isn't duplicated but:-
Thanks for pictures Squirl, very nice. Liked the second one best - it seemed to brig out the lights on the bushes clearer. I do not have lights on my own house but there is a road within walking distance where just about every house is decorated. I shall have a go there. My daughter and son-in-law in Queensland do go in for lights in a big way and I have forwarded the suggestions and photos from yesterday to him |

Very nice, I was hoping I would not need to use a tripod but that seems not possible.

Hmm. Maybe it's just me, but I see a lots of noise here. Maybe run a NR program to clean 'em up a little. Good composition though. WC.

yeah, there's noise there... there's always noise with digital cameras. but not nearly asbad as most people seem to think, and frankly, a lot less than i've seen from some other cameras in the same class. and i did crank up the gamma correction on the last two a bit, which tends to bring out any noise that's lurking.

#2 at f6.5 seems to have the better balance between the lights and the house, but it also looks a little noisier than #1.

#2 does it for me. I'm going out next week to take some christmas shots and I'lltry the same settings. These look more natural to me than others I've seen.

very nice squirl. I like #3 in f8. The star effect of these lights and added sharpness makes for a great picture.
