Creature at the Park

I apologize for not posting lately or responding but its been a crazy two weeks setting up the nature center by myself here and collecting the animals and setting up the tanks all while letting the public come into to see the center.

This terrapin is the talk of the park as the little guy emerged from the sand after probably a winter hibernation. He's about 2" long and a protected species so we are giving him a headstart and its a big responsibility.

He is eating oysters; and after eating, he eats he passes out on the rock under his basking light.

The bluebird nest is attached to the nature center.

We have a 5.5 foot rat snake and I'll get pictures later on of her.

Hope you enjoy these and I hope everyone is doing well.

Hi Chris - a really lovely series. You are obviously doing a great job. That little terrapin is clearly living in the lap of luxury and enjoying himself - soooooo cute. Love the colour and pattern on his little shell - really well captured too. You should be well proud of yourself. Keep the shots coming.

Thanks you two. I most certainly will post some more park pics soon. I have had to spend hours of research learning how to care for this guy. He's been more than a handful and loves his oysters.

I'll get some more pics soon.

Take care

Chris, very nice shots!

May I ask what you do for a living, because it sounds like a really cool job.

Well thanks again.

What I do is help run a nature center at a CT State Park. I'm a park interpreter and also a park ranger (dealing with the public, park rules, and emergencies) now as we had to cross train.

I do nature walks and activities and at the same time care for animals that have to be native species in the area.

Its a moderate paying seasonal job with no benefits but it keeps me out of the cubical world of cooperate America so far.

We have no budget and very old equipment so it is a challenge making sure the animals are in the proper set ups; a job that also utilizes the skills of a handyman (jerry-rigger) of course.

Actually, I am on my way to another state park to assist with a seining program and my pay will be a gray tree-frog for the nature center. The things I do fro frogs.:D

Chris thanks for the reply. Sounds like some really cool stuff that you are doing.

Paid with a frog, now that is different. Do you have to pay taxes on the frog? :D

Chris, thanks for teaching people to appreciate nature, wish we had more people like you.
