I love seening photos of your country, places and people. BTW, the Dutch boat is nice, I also was wondering about the unusual looking boards on the side. |

they are called leeboards, and there are 2, one on each side they work like keels, to help the boat sail straight, and to keep it a bit more upright when under sail. Only the board on the 'lee' side [the side the wind is blowing too] of the boat is set down, so the boat can lean on it. the advantage is that the boards can be hauled up [like the one you can see] when the water is shallow, so that the boat doesnt run aground. |
