Our area has had some Cabbage butterflies out for a couple of weeks, but nothing else. Saturday, I happened upon a property with thistles and milkweed. The blooms on these plants brought out the first few butterflies and bees in good number (at least for me). The only Fritillary that would cooperate for photos was one with some wing damage.
But, question for the braintrust here, ... Last season, I learned that shooting in burst mode to get three shots was useful. Sometimes one of the three is good, sometimes two, sometimes none. But, the likelihood that one is the best is good (position of wings, position on plant material, etc). I think exposure and focus is always the same for all three shots, ... am I right? But, what determines the cycle times on the three shots? Some are "deliberate," that nearly a second apart. Other times, the three shots go off "bang, bang, bang." Why the difference, if focus and exposure is the same? |

Very nice series Roger, enjoyed viewing. Those thistles are butterfly magnets.
About your question this is from the owner's manual: The burst speed (pictures/second) may become slower depending on the recording environment such as in dark places, if the ISO is high etc.

Shucks! I had picked #5 as my favorite, then scrolled down, & absolutely loved all those that followed. Now I can't pick a favorite!!!
Great series of fantastic shots!

Thanks for the comments, folks! I've not done much with my camera in the past two months -- way too busy with work life. But, this opportunity was too good to let pass. I do come here every day to see the work of others -- keep 'em coming.
#2 is my favorite. The orange butterfly, with the green backdrop, and then the purpose thistle head cover is striking. Also, the light against the body, contrasted with the shadow of the wing brings the body to the front. I failed to mention that all these were shot with LC55, on P mode. I've read the manual about the blast shoot rate, but I don't see correlation to anything. Taking the shots is always a surprise on the rapidity of the three shots. |
