![]() The FX01 Night Scene mode sets the iso at 80 and gives you up to 8 sec exposure. These are all using a mini tripod and 2 sec timer. I left the OIS on 2. No processing other than cropping. The originals are accessible at http://fmoore.zoto.com/galleries/firstfx01 . 3.2s, f2.8, 16:9 crop ![]() ![]() ![]() 5s, f2.8, 16:9 crop ![]() ![]() ![]() 8s, f5.6, full 3.6x zoom, no crop ![]() ![]() ![]() 4s, f2.8, 28mm, no crop ![]() ![]() ![]() 3.2s, f2.8, rotated and cropped ![]() ![]() ![]() The fx01 manual indicates that the focus range is 5m to infinity in Night Scene mode. That's questionable. This last shot was from about 2m. In good light I could easily focus from 1 ft in Night Scene mode. Focusing seemed to be no different than in normal mode. There are bright lights to focus on in all of these shots so I dont know if it would default to infinity with insufficient light. The bridge was about a half mile away. |

Fred, very nice night scenes. Your choice of subject matter is very appealing to me. I love these type of photos. How often we are so familiar with something, we never really see it until someone else points it out to it. I know that is the case here in my area. We often don't see what is in the backyard.

Great night work! What's the 'mini-tripod' you used? I have just bought a FX01 and want to get a 'support' for longer exposures. The camera is a real gem - but I don't want to loose the freedom a small camera gives by carring around a huge tripod...

![]() This is what I use with my fx01. Measures about 5" long. Quite pocketable. The flexible legs can be bent to conform to different surfaces. For instance, the church shot was taken from a tree branch at a rather odd angle but I could bend the legs to get the horizon right. Hold it down with one hand and operate the 2sec timer and shutter with the other. Even though it is recommended that you turn the OIS off when using a tripod, I keep it on due to the possibility of some shake since it is still a modified handheld shot. $1.90 at http://www.4compu.com/iteminfo.asp?ItemNo=9152&oid=29 ![]() ![]() |

Thanks, Narmer. I like that church shot, too. These were all kind of experimental (When I stop experimenting, the fun will be out of it!) and that one more so than the others. That's one of the beauties of the ultra comapact, take anywhere FX01.
