A few people told me not to use Sigma because they are junk. What have you seen with your lens?

That's nonsense. Sigma makesgreat lenses. I did a couple of test shots comparing my Sigma 28-70, 3.5-4.5 lens to the Minolta 18-70 3.5-5.6 lens that came with the camera, and the Sigma matched or exceeded the Minolta lens in clarity. It is also a more solid built.

Computers, I am an expert with many certs and 20+ years experience in network engineering.
Cameras, I know how to push the button and make changes on my S45 and S1 IS. I have no idea about SLRs. So Sigma lens are decent. Does Sigma have the f/1.7 autofocus lens for 5D? |

I am also looking at the Nikon D50 kit from B&H

I like the KM5D because of the Image stabilization. I do not see any advantage of the Nikon D50.
