Hi!

I was planning to buy the FZ5 for some time, but now of course i will buy the Fz7 since it is much better, i just have some doubts about this camera:

about the fact that it doesn't suport raw images and only tiff for uncompressed pics. isn't this bad?

Does the DMW-LA2 adapter come with the package?

Hi and welcome,

I have a FZ20 and never used the TIFF mode since my first week.

I believe the RAW mode is more geared towards the DSLR market. I shoot in the highest JPEG mode with most settings turned down and this has served me well so far.

TIFF is slower to take for burst shots, so JPEG is the way to go on the Panasonics.

Hope this helps,

The DMW-LA2 adaptor, is an optional unit (not included with camera) which provides a 55mm thread for accessory devices. What comes with the camera is a combination lens hood adaptor and accesory adaptor with a 52mm thread. It works fine, no problems. The DMW-LA2 adaptor is recommended in the manual because it mates with Panasonic's wide and tele add-on lenses (55m devices). For anything else, the lens hood / accessory adaptor is fine.

The FZ7 supports TIFF mode, but in practical terms it is no better than the high quality JPEG mode, so most people don't bother with it (it creates huge files that eat up data space). What the FZ7 needed was RAW mode, and maybe we'll see it on an upcoming generation.

The FZ7 is a very good camera for the money. Very few complaints, and arguably better than the FZ20.
