Well, I finally got out to Great Falls NP yesterday - the first time in almost 3 months! These waterfalls are about 15 miles northwest of Washington DC. The Potomac River drops something like 80 feet over this series of falls. The rapids throughout the park are rated classes II-VI for kayaking and canoeing. The boating entrances are located just below this section of the falls.

As you can see, I missed the peak of the fall foliage season. In these parts, you have to move quickly to see any colors.

And another view of the falls. This is a closeup of a section that can be seen in the wider view shown above. The boating entrance is just a couple of hundred yards south of this section.

Nice shots Ladyhawk. I'm with Squirl. They'd have to be nuts to kayak through these rapids............thekman.

Nice pictures LadyHawk! I especially like the closeup of the reflections in the water. Regarding the kayaks (sp) I hope they have some BIG rubber bumpers! Jim

Your shots are very nice indeed. Great color, clearity and composition. I especially like the wide angle crop of the branches with the wind riffles across the water. Excellent. I am on my way out to try and catch some of the fall colors here in California that are just peaking. Again, well done.smac
