While participating in a photography workshop yesterday morning at the Wakodahatchee Wetlands in Delray Beach, Florida, I quite unintentionally captured this Pied-billed Grebe not quite in flight:

Those unintentional shots are quite often the best.

nice shot, great lighting. Would have been perfect if the whole refelction was in shot. Happenstance is wonderful.

Funny you should say so. I actually did capture the entire reflection and tried three different crops when I was post processing it. Here is a link to all three versions: http://rschofield.smugmug.com/gallery/2452252 I was just about to post a message asking what the members here thought was the best crop. I will explain my thinking after people have a chance to express their opinions. -- Dick http://rschofield.smugmug.com/ |

I agree with Rafael. By instinct, our brain quicklygets distractedby what is 'just' missing. A full reflection would keep you focused on the photo. BTW, a very good photo, despite the minor shortcoming.

I had a look at your three crops. The shot is good regardless of the crop. The 16:9 crop gives a bit for forward momentum to the bird, but I think I like the full refletion best.
Interesting to see what others think and your reasoning. There is never A right answer, just a bunck of views. |
